Our client was arrested for driving on a suspended license, which had been suspended due to a prior DUI conviction. Typically, the State seeks jail time for driving on a suspended license in cases involving a DUI suspension. In these cases, individuals with a combination of three DUI or driving while license suspended (DWLS) convictions risk being classified as habitual traffic offenders, resulting in a five-year license suspension.

Attorney Valcarcel guided the client through the steps to obtain a valid license. After presenting this to the State, she successfully negotiated a reduction of the charge to a no valid driver’s license offense. The client avoided jail, probation, and the habitual traffic offender designation, while only having to pay court costs.
